Austin, Texas - United StatesIndustry
I've written for national media outlets such as NPR and Tape Op magazine, as well as local newspapers and magazines including the Austin Statesman, Austin Chronicle, The Good Life magazine and the Oak Hill Gazette. I've been a news editor, an entertainment editor, a publicity director and have held other management positions in the entertainment industry as well. For the past ten years, I've worked as a freelance writer, editor and music producer. I've enjoyed the flexibility of keeping my own hours and being my own boss — until I laid myself off. It's not always good to be king, because you have two jobs when you're self-employed: doing the work, and finding the work. Currently, I'm a copy editor/proof reader for GateHouse media. Started with the weeklies and got promoted to the large dailies section, where I work on the company's biggest newspaper to date, The Columbus Dispatch. To make sure I don't lose my writing skills, I continue to publish a column for the Oak Hill Gazette on a monthly basis. And I take the occasional freelance gigs when they arise, although I no longer pursue that as vehemently as I used to. I also own a small home audio recording studio called Deceptive Sound, where I've written, recorded and produced songs, jingles, movie scores, and other audio productions for my clients and myself. These days, mainly for myself.
